Maoist declare war on state in Nandigram

Posted by Indian Vanguard on November 8, 2007

KOLKATA: The Maoists have declared war on the state administration at Nandigram and claimed that they have already established a “free peoples zone” there.

“The current struggle at Nandigram is no longer confined to a battle against the CPM. This struggle is against the administration and the people of Nandigram want revenge. The revenge will be a violent one. Resistance against the armed CPM cadres and the police must be an armed one,” a Maoist document, in ET’s possession, said.

The ultra-Left forces want to take revenge on the police and CPM cadres who had reportedly killed 14 people at Nandigram on March 14. These forces are also trying to exploit the hatred of the common people against the police and the state administration They have warned that any move by the administration and the government to neutralise the hatred against them will go against the state.

The Maoists have also formed village protection groups at Nandigram. They have also formed the Matangini Mahila Samity (MMS), an organisation of women. Some of these women have got armed training. The protection group is named after Matangini Hazra, a legendary freedom fighter from Midnapore district. The forum was set up on July 15 with more than 500 active members from Nandigram.

The main job of the members of MMS is to alert Maoist activists about any possible armed attack from the Khejuri end which is still a CPM stronghold. “Members of the Samity alert our men by blowing conch shells once these women hear sounds of explosion from the Khejuri end,” the document said.

The ultra-Left forces have also infiltrated among the school children at Nandigram. “The school children are also aware about the fact that a struggle is on at Nandigram. Though they are not mature enough to realise the nature of struggle, the students of Class VI and VII had forced a police camp at Tekhali school to leave the school campus,” the document said.

“The ruling CPM is trying to brand our struggle against the state as a battle by the Trinamool Congress to capture land under their control. Some of the Trinamool Congress leaders are also thinking in the same manner. Some Trinamool Congress men are also trying to pose as leaders of the ongoing struggle at Nandigram.

But it will be a gross mistake if someone considers the Bhumi Uchched Pratirodh Committee (BUPC) as a mere forum controlled by the Trinamool Congress to prevent land acquisition. What is going on at Nandigram is an armed battle against the state,” the document suggested.

The ultra-Left forces also scoffed at the West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, CPM central committee member Benoy Konar, party MP from Tamluk, Lakshman Seth and CPM state secretary Biman Bose.

“The people of Nandigram are facing bullets every moment from Khejuri and continuous malicious campaigns against them by Buddha (Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee) and Benoy (Benoy Konar) who are based in Kolkata and Lakshman (Lakshman Seth) and Biman (Biman Bose) who operate from Haldia. Naturally, people of Nandigram have lost their patience since they are constantly hearing such malicious campaigns and are not ready to compromise with these CPM leaders,” the Maoist leaders have said in the document.
