SHIMOGA: In a major turning point, the Tallurangadi robbery case which was suspected to be an act of Naxals was proved fake. The district police have arrested six people including two girls in connection with the incident which occured on July 14 in Tallurangadi near Agumbe in Tirthahalli taluk.

Tallurangadi resident Shivara-machari, the kingpin, Shivakumar (31), M N Vijaykumar (24), Rajesh (27), Vijayalkshmi (25) and Ambika (24) were arrested. All are residents of Bangalore. Shivaramachari has admitted before the police that personal revenge and greed for money were the reasons behind the act.

SP Arun Chakravarti told reporters here on Sunday that the arrested made use of the opportunity when the people were terrified because of Naxal attacks. They looted the house claiming themselves as Naxalites.

Shivaramachari has a criminal background with three cases related to theft, robbery and kidnapping. He was taken to police custody on August 4 and the rest all were arrested in Bangalore as per the information given by him. Shivaramachari persuaded them for the act, he said.

They had even left pamplhlets after robbing the house saying that the money robbed would be given as compensation to the family of victims of the Menasinahadya encounter. They would be interrogated again to find out more possible information about the bus burning incident also, Chakravarthi stated.

Police have recovered Rs 10,000 cash, 100 gm gold, 270 gm silver and two mobile handsets worth Rs 1 lakh in total. Three weapons including two toy guns, diary, Naxal pamphlets, map of Tallurangadi and a car used by the arrested to move from Bangalore to Tallurangadi and back were also recovered, SP added.
